Although Evans started off in the world of MON classical music, it wasn't long before he got the Jazz bug. MON His classical training wasn't wasted though, for it went on MON to influence the way he performed for the rest of his life. MON His touch at the piano became legendary, and his preferred MON ensemble for performing his own compositions, and those by MON others, was the Jazz trio combining piano, bass and drums. MON Evans came to prominence when invited to work alongside MON Miles Davis and, in time, Evans would go on to perform with MON the likes of Tony Bennett, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, MON Stan Getz and Monica Zetterlund. MON MON Family was very important to the composer Bill Evans. His MON earliest musical influences came from his mother, and his MON most famous work, Waltz for Debbie, was inspired by his MON niece. Evans won a scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana MON University, and around the same period he composed his MON earliest known composition, 'Very Early'. After a brief MON spell in the army, and by the time he was twenty-six, Evans MON recorded an album called New Jazz Conceptions, which MON included his new work, 'No Cover, No Minimum'. Bill Evans MON was starting to make quite a name for himself, and then came MON the call from Miles Davis offering Evans the chance of MON performing alongside the legendary trumpeter and his MON ensemble. Although Evans started off in the world of TUE classical music, it wasn't long before he got the Jazz bug. TUE His classical training wasn't wasted though, for it went on TUE to influence the way he performed for the rest of his life. TUE His touch at the piano became legendary, and his preferred TUE ensemble for performing his own compositions, and those by TUE others, was the Jazz trio combining piano, bass and drums. TUE Evans came to prominence when invited to work alongside TUE Miles Davis and, in time, Evans would go on to perform with TUE the likes of Tony Bennett, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, TUE Stan Getz and Monica Zetterlund. TUE TUE Performing alongside Miles Davis had brought Bill Evans to a TUE much wider audience. Evans soon left the band though, and TUE pursued his own career making a new album called Everybody TUE Digs Bill Evans, which included a new work Peace Piece. TUE Towards the end of the 1950s, things were looking good for TUE Evans, although his addiction to heroin was starting to take TUE its toll. He'd agreed to work with Davis again on the album, TUE Kind of Blue, which included a work by Evans called Blue in TUE Green, although Davis claimed it as his own. By the time TUE Evans was thirty, he was well known, popular, and was soon TUE to form his own historic trio including Paul Motian and TUE Scott LaFaro. They gelled together perfectly, and went into TUE studio to record works such as Autumn Leaves, and Evans's TUE Peri's Scope. This pinnacle of perfection for Evans, though, TUE was short-lived; bassist Scott LaFaro died in a traffic TUE accident shortly afterwards. Although Evans started off in the world of WED classical music, it wasn't long before he got the Jazz bug. WED His classical training wasn't wasted though, for it went on WED to influence the way he performed for the rest of his life. WED His touch at the piano became legendary, and his preferred WED ensemble for performing his own compositions, and those by WED others, was the Jazz trio combining piano, bass and drums. WED Evans came to prominence when invited to work alongside WED Miles Davis and, in time, Evans would go on to perform with WED the likes of Tony Bennett, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, WED Stan Getz and Monica Zetterlund. WED WED Evans was now frequently in and out of studio recordings. WED Quite simply he needed the money. He'd borrowed money from WED loan sharks who were now threatening to break his fingers. WED One of these financially driven projects included his work WED Interplay, which on top of his usual trio line-up, also WED included trumpet and guitar. Evans's need for money was WED partly due to his drugs habit and, at times, Evans found WED himself making albums he just wasn't happy with. One work he WED was pleased with was Fudgesicle Built for Four, referring to WED a popular chocolate ice-cream from the time. There were also WED some interesting collaborations for Evans during this WED period, including the saxophonist Stan Getz, the vocalist WED Monica Zetterlund who Evans had met on tour in Sweden, the WED orchestral leader and arranger Claus Ogerman, and also a WED collaboration with himself using multi-track techniques in WED his number, NYC's No Lark. Although Evans started off in the world of THU classical music, it wasn't long before he got the Jazz bug. THU His classical training wasn't wasted though, for it went on THU to influence the way he performed for the rest of his life. THU His touch at the piano became legendary, and his preferred THU ensemble for performing his own compositions, and those by THU others, was the Jazz trio combining piano, bass and drums. THU Evans came to prominence when invited to work alongside THU Miles Davis and, in time, Evans would go on to perform with THU the likes of Tony Bennett, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, THU Stan Getz and Monica Zetterlund. THU THU Helen Keane had come into Bill Evans's life as his manager THU and, later on, also producer. Evans went on to dedicate two THU works to Keane, including One for Helen, and also Song for THU Helen. Evan's trio, what with touring and other pressures, THU was frequently changing in personnel. Soon, the bassist THU Eddie Gomez had joined the trio and he recorded a number of THU works with the Evans, including G Waltz, and Comrade Conrad. THU Evans kept up his collaborations with other musicians during THU the late nineteen-sixties, including the guitarist Jim Hall, THU recording a duo performance of Turn Out the Stars. Evans THU also sometimes invited musicians to expand his trio line-up THU to a quartet, including flautist Jeremy Steig who performed THU in Evans's composition, Time Out for Chris. This period was THU exceptionally busy, with frequent tours abroad and many THU studio recordings. One album won Evans two Grammy awards THU which featured his number, Sugar Plum. Another FRI tour took Evans to Japan where he was given a film-star FRI welcome. For that tour he had brought with him new FRI repertoire, including the virtuosic Twelve Tone Tune Two. By FRI the mid seventies, Evans had a son called Evan, later FRI dedicating a work to him called Letter to Evan. Another huge FRI event in his his family circumstances was the news that his FRI brother Harry had committed suicide. Harry never knew that FRI Evans had written a work for him called We Will Meet Again. FRI By the late seventies Evans's health was in decline; he was FRI suffering from hepatitis. Touring was making increasing FRI demands upon Evans, including twenty-one European cities in FRI twenty-four days. By nineteen-eighty, with his face gaunt, FRI and his wrists and fingers bloated, Evans was too exhausted FRI to perform, and a few days later he died.
